Call it a miracle
or magical or whatever you want to believe but, despite the awful weather of
the previous two days and despite the gruesome weather forecast, on Saturday, September 24, 2011 over 100 racers,
walkers and kids participated in the Thirteenth Annual Kimberton
Run. This 5K Run/Walk and 1/2 mile Kid's Run took place on a perfect day for running in lovely
East Pikeland Township in Chester County, PA.
This was a great run
and walk through
the beautiful countryside of East Pikeland including over an historical
covered bridge.
Thanks to the racers,
donors and great
sponsors, this year we raised nearly $3,000 to support the
various charities of the Kimberton Lions.
Over the past thirteen years, the Kimberton 5K
Run/Walk has raised nearly $43,000 to benefit Lions' projects.
A great big THANK YOU to all of the race participants,
to all of the helpers and to all of our donors, supporters and sponsors.
We can't do it without you!!!!
This
year's Kimberton Run was dedicated to our good friend Wayne J. Wisdom. Wayne
passed away on March 20, 2011 after a long bout with cancer.
Wayne was a prominent member of the Kimberton/Phoenixville community. He
served as president of the Kimberton Area Lions Club for two terms
(2006-2008) and was founder of the Kimberton 5K Run. Wayne
served as head of East Pikeland's Parks and Recreation Department and was
prominent in the development of the East Pikeland Park in the center of
Kimberton. He served as president of
the Phoenixville Senior Center Board of Directors and was recipient of the
Phoenixville Area InterService Club's Ambassador of the Year Award in 2004.
We will miss him!
This year, in support of PACS, the Phoenixville Area Community Services
Organization, we again collected cans of food for those less
fortunate. Thank you all who have contributed to this most worthy cause.

About the Kimberton Lions
Serving the Phoenixville, Valley Forge
and Kimberton, PA Area
Lions are members of community service clubs, dedicated to the idea that
the men and women who live in a community are in the best position to know who
needs help and why. More than 46,000 strong, these local clubs are part of the
world's largest such organization, with 1.4 million members serving in more
than 190 countries and areas. The association is both non-political and
non-sectarian. Lions are now best known for their sight-related programs,
including SightFirst, the world's largest blindness prevention program.
Each and every dollar raised by the
Kimberton Lions is donated to local Phoenixville, Valley Forge and Kimberton community and charitable organizations. A
totally separate fund, comprised of member dues, is used for the
administration of the Club.
